Financial Analyst, Energy – Portfolio Valuation (NYC / Philadelphia Metro)

Our client is seeking a Financial Analyst – Energy. The ideal candidate must possess a strong financial modeling background, as well as have an analytical orientation and business development skills. Expertise in the Energy sector is necessary. This position is great for a candidate interested in gaining experience with a variety of investment securities and valuation methodologies, as well a pursuing a CFA designation.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on client, competitors, industry, and capital markets, including market multiples, comparable ratios, and credit spreads.
  • Gather and document pertinent data obtained through client interaction.
  • Build, modify and utilize financial models for discounted cash flow, guideline market multiple, market transaction, fixed income and option valuations.
  • Perform valuation analyses on companies and their securities across a wide range of subsectors within the energy sector, including, but not limited to, oil and gas exploration and production, oil and gas midstream, oil and gas downstream, MLPs, cogeneration, renewable energy, etc., using relevant qualitative information gathered and through the application of proprietary quantitative valuation models.
  • Prepare formal client reports.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field. Masters degree is required. Coursework in valuation or securities analysis is a plus.
  • 2-5 years of relevant energy-focused work experience. Master Limited Partnerships (MLP) and Exploration & Production (E&P) Market experience is required.
  • Background in credit analysis is preferred.
  • Advanced, working knowledge of Excel.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and superior analytical capabilities are imperative.
  • Self starter and ability to master new tasks quickly.
  • Ability to work on multiple assignments, prioritize tasks, and handle dynamic, time-sensitive engagements in a team setting.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work flexible hours around critical due dates.

Financial Analyst (NYC)

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare reports/presentations for senior management with detailed and insightful analytics.
  • Analyze expenses and explain variances against different scenarios (budget, reforecast and prior years).
  • Research and analyze data in order to provide recommendations around efficiencies and cost savings opportunities.
  • Provide support around planning cycles and financial close processes.
  • Provide analytics around CLIENT’s field expenses
  • Liaise with Corporate business partners (Human Resources, Finance, IT) around department’s management expenses
  • Prepare and analyze expense related reports (both on a recurring & adhoc basis).
  • Support department managers around their budgets and meeting their targets.
  • Support the department teams in monthly and quarterly close processes.
  • Support the preparation of annual expense budgets and adjustments to via reforecasting
  • Process various journal entries, forms, payments, accruals, etc. required to keep expenditures, organization and the system hierarchy’s accurate.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Finance, Accounting Business Administration or another related field is required. Masters Degree and/or CFA Designation (or CFA candidate) preferred.
  • 6-8 years of finance/accounting experience, specifically with a minimum of 3 years in expense management and budgeting.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to create professional reports and presentations
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects
  • Strong Excel skills (macros, V-lookups, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills, ability to work in a team environment and support multiple business partners
  • Strong knowledge of financial analytics, budgeting and reporting
  • Experience using Essbase, Smartview and PeopleSoft

Senior Valuation Associate (Chicago, IL)

Responsibilities:
• Analyze competitive industries and the financial conditions of comparable companies.
• Model and evaluate business plans, financial statements, and cost allocations.
• Assist in the due diligence of pending merger and acquisition activities,, public-company purchase price allocations, goodwill impairment assesments, international restructurings and private-company fairness opinions
• Assist in report preparation, proposals and executive presentations.
• Prepare and analyze financial and economic data for tax and regulatory compliance.
• Review and analyze U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) financial statements.
• Research comparable publicly-traded companies.

Qualifications:
• Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field. CFA and/or graduate degree is a plus.
• Minimum two years working experience with valuation-related projects within an audit, tax, and advisory firm
• Minimum two years working experience with valuations of business entities and intangible assets, purchase price allocations, and financial analysis and research
• Experience with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to work well both autonomously and in a team environment.
